Harris-Walz campaign: New analysis shows economic proposals would help NC families

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Harris-Walz campaign has released a new economic analysis indicating that North Carolina families would benefit more from the Democrats’ economic proposals than those of their Republican opponent.

A detailed state-by-state comparison conducted by the Harris-Walz campaign highlights studies from various reputable organizations that assess the implications of President Trump’s proposed increases in tariffs. The analyses suggest that these tariffs could lead to higher costs for consumers.

Trump’s approach aims to encourage companies to bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. by levying increased tariffs on a range of goods. However, Harris has denounced this strategy, labeling it a tax increase on American families, a claim Trump contested during their only debate.

The Harris-Walz campaign’s recent analysis draws from five studies conducted by independent organizations that evaluated the impact of Trump’s tariff policies. According to their report, the average estimated increase in household costs could reach $3,954, broken down as follows:

  • Tax Foundation: $6,000
  • Center for American Progress: $3,900
  • American Action Forum: $3,900
  • Institute for Taxation and Economic Policy: $3,370
  • Peterson Institute: over $2,600

Specifically for North Carolina, the analysis suggests that Trump’s tariff proposal would impose an average additional cost of $3,954 per household.

In contrast, the Harris-Walz plan seeks to provide significant tax relief, including a proposed $6,000 newborn child tax credit and an expansion of the child tax credit itself.

“Instead of raising costs by thousands, Harris-Walz will cut millions of North Carolinians’ taxes,” stated the campaign document.

Economic issues have taken center stage in the ongoing presidential race, with Trump attempting to appeal to voters by promising to eliminate taxes on tips, overtime wages, and social security, among other tax reforms.
