Cleveland Browns activate DTs Maurice Hurst, Mike Hall, LB Mohamoud Diabate ahead of matchup with Philadelphia Eagles
CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns made significant roster changes on Saturday as they prepared for their Sunday afternoon matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Defensive tackle Maurice Hurst II (ankle) has been activated from injured reserve along with linebacker Mohamoud Diabate (hip). Both players participated fully in practice on Friday after limited participation earlier in the week. Hurst and Diabate appeared in the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys but were placed on injured reserve on September 11.
Additionally, defensive tackle Mike Hall has been activated from the commissioner’s exempt list after serving a five-game suspension due to a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.
Hall was anticipated to play a prominent role in the team’s defensive front. However, his situation changed dramatically on August 12 when he was taken into custody by Avon police following allegations of assaulting the mother of his child.
According to the initial police report, Hall’s fiancée claimed he dragged her and pointed a gun at her, allegedly making threatening statements. However, she later modified her account, indicating to prosecutors that she was “mistaken” regarding the details of the incident.
Hall faced charges of domestic violence and assault but ultimately pled no contest to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct on September 19. He received a 30-day suspended jail sentence and was placed on two years of probation.
On the injury front, offensive tackle James Hudson III, who missed last week’s game due to a shoulder injury, has been placed on injured reserve.
To accommodate these roster moves, the Browns made the decision to release wide receiver and kick returner James Proche II. Proche contributed 119 total yards on 13 returns across four games this season. He will be replaced by Jaelon Darden, a third-year receiver from North Texas, who has been elevated from the practice squad.
Moreover, the Browns also elevated Christopher Edmonds, an undrafted rookie safety who has been on the practice squad for the season thus far.
