White Cane Awareness Day Includes Experiential Walk Along Route 9
BRATTLEBORO — Everyone is invited to join us for White Cane Awareness Day at the First Congregational Church, located at 880 Western Ave., at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
White Cane Awareness/Safety Day is a national observance celebrated across the United States on October 15 each year since 1964. This special day highlights the accomplishments of individuals who are blind or visually impaired, recognizing the white cane as both a powerful symbol of blindness and a vital tool for independence. This year’s theme emphasizes the importance of inclusion, celebrating abilities, and advocating for access for all individuals.
During the event in Brattleboro, attendees will participate in an experiential walk along Route 9, offering a unique opportunity to gain insight into the experiences of the visually impaired community. Following the walk, participants are invited to enjoy light refreshments in the church meeting hall.
We encourage the community to come together to support and celebrate the achievements of those with visual impairments and to promote an inclusive environment for everyone. Be a part of this meaningful event and help us raise awareness about the importance of the white cane as a symbol of empowerment and independence.
