✰PREMIUM Brooklyn Pastor Brings Thanksgiving Meals to Vital Healthcare Workers

FLATBUSH — For 15 years, Brooklyn Pastor Gil Monrose has been dedicated to raising funds and collecting turkeys to provide meals for crucial healthcare workers who tirelessly serve the community, even during the holidays.

“We’re honored to serve those who selflessly serve our communities,” stated Monrose, the senior pastor at Mt. Zion Church of God Seventh Day. “It’s our way of expressing gratitude to these dedicated healthcare professionals.”

On Thursday, Nov. 28, the Historic Mt. Zion Church of God Seventh Day organized a “Serving the Servers” initiative, delivering hot meals to healthcare workers in partnership with local leaders, clergy, and community organizations.

The 2024 “Serving the Servers” program took place across five hospitals in the borough: Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, Interfaith Medical Center, Kings County Hospital Center, and SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

“The staff is always so thankful for the thoughtfulness and Thanksgiving that we have been participants of over the past 15 years,” remarked Emergency Services Lead Nurse Gerald.

Pastor Monrose originally hails from the U.S. Virgin Islands, having moved to New York in 1999 to pursue theology at Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary. He is actively involved with various community organizations, including the East Flatbush Ready When the Time Comes Disaster Team, which collaborates with the American Red Cross of Greater New York to provide disaster-relief training to volunteers. Additionally, Monrose serves as the chaplain for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, is a board member of the Flatbush YMCA, and founded the Brooklyn Center for Quality Life.

The initiative involved numerous partners, including State Sen. Kevin Parker, the St. Lucia House Foundation, and the NYC Mayor’s Community Affairs Unit, among others.

Parker, a long-time supporter of the event, expressed his sentiment: “We often overlook the hospital staff who sacrifice time with their families to care for patients during the holidays. I’m proud to support Mt. Zion Church for the past 15 years.”
