Cole Palmer makes EPL history with 12th consecutive penalty strike

On a thrilling Sunday in London, Chelsea star Cole Palmer etched his name in English Premier League history by scoring two pivotal penalties in his team’s remarkable 4-3 comeback victory against Tottenham.

The talented forward displayed remarkable composure as he confidently converted both second-half spot kicks, marking an impressive milestone of 12 successful penalties in the league without a miss. This feat surpassed the previous record held by Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, who had netted 11 consecutive penalties.

Palmer’s record-breaking penalty came in the 84th minute, executed with flair as he opted for a daring ‘Panenka’ shot, delicately chipping the ball down the center of the goal. This technique, made famous by Czech football legend Antonin Panenka, undoubtedly added to the drama of the match.

Reflecting on his audacious approach, Palmer revealed, “When I put the ball down and stepped back, I knew what I was going to do. I thought it was late in the game, and it was a bit crazy, so I just went for it.”

At just 22 years old, Palmer has quickly established himself as one of the premier talents in world football since his move from Manchester City to Chelsea in 2023. His impact has been undeniable, with an astounding 50 goal involvements (33 goals and 17 assists) in just 48 league appearances for his new club, contributing significantly to Chelsea’s rise to the second position in the league table.

In addition to his two goals against Tottenham, Palmer also played a crucial role in creating one of the team’s other goals, showcasing his all-around abilities on the pitch. His performance not only solidified his status as a key player for Chelsea but also highlighted his potential for future achievements in his burgeoning career.
