Trump Dismisses Key Officials and More on 1st Day in Office
Washington D.C., USA – US President Donald Trump signed multiple executive orders on his first day back in office, reversing several policies of the previous Biden administration and signalling a dramatic shift in government direction.
During a signing event at the Capital One Arena, an administration official announced that Trump was rescinding 78 Biden-era executive actions, including orders, presidential memoranda, and other directives.
Addressing his supporters, Trump vowed to revoke nearly 80 “destructive and radical” executive actions from the previous administration.
Among the most significant orders signed were the withdrawal of the US from the Paris Climate Agreement, a regulatory and hiring freeze for government agencies, an order to restore free speech protections, and a directive addressing the cost of living crisis.
Trump also reinstated a national emergency at the US southern border, paving the way for military deployment. He pledged to halt all illegal entry and begin the process of deporting what he described as “millions of criminal aliens.”
Additionally, he signed an order to end birthright citizenship, challenging the interpretation of the 14th Amendment. At the White House, Trump signed another executive order designating drug cartels and certain organisations as foreign terrorist entities.
Trump withdrew the US from both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Paris Climate Agreement, arguing that both institutions had unfairly burdened the US financially. He criticised WHO funding disparities, stating that the US contributed $500 million while China paid only $39 million.
Trump suspended all US foreign assistance for 90 days, pending a review of its alignment with American interests. He also reinstated Cuba’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, reversing a last-minute order by Biden that had removed the designation as part of a Vatican-brokered agreement to release Cuban political prisoners.
In an unexpected move, Trump signed an order delaying a ban on the social media platform TikTok for 75 days, stating that a resolution was being pursued to protect national security while keeping the app available to 170 million US users. He hinted at a potential joint venture between the US and other undisclosed entities.
Trump’s return to the White House has already set the stage for significant policy reversals and political battles, with further executive actions expected in the coming days.
