Sources: Broncos, LT Bolles agree to 4-year deal
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos have secured their longest-tenured player, left tackle Garett Bolles, by extending his contract. Bolles, who was the Broncos’ first-round pick in the 2017 draft, has agreed to a four-year extension to stay with the team, as confirmed by various sources on Thursday morning. Bolles himself announced the agreement in a social media post on the same day.
Although the complete terms of the extension have not been fully disclosed, reports suggest that the deal could be worth up to $82 million overall, with guarantees surpassing $40 million.
In his X post, Bolles stated, “It’s been a great 8 years! Thanks for everything! And … I’m not leaving. The show goes on! GB.” He also shared a brief video that featured game highlights along with footage from his workouts.
Bolles was the 20th overall pick in the 2017 draft, marking the Broncos’ first selection of a tackle in the first round since Ryan Clady in 2008. Notably, the team has not used any draft picks on a tackle since acquiring Bolles.
Previously, Bolles signed a four-year, $68 million extension in 2020 and was heading towards becoming an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. At 32 years old, Bolles has established himself as one of the most reliable players on the team, rarely missing practice and starting all 13 games this season.
Currently, Bolles ranks seventh in the league for pass block win rate at 93.2%. He has maintained a streak of starting at least 16 games in four separate seasons and has only missed more than three games in a season once, which was in 2022 due to a fractured leg sustained in the fifth game.
Earlier this season, Bolles voiced some uncertainty regarding his future in Denver. He was entering the final year of his contract while the team had already secured extensions for guard Quinn Meinerz, cornerback Pat Surtain II, and linebacker Jonathon Cooper before they hit free agency. Additionally, the Broncos signed tackle Mike McGlinchey and guard Ben Powers to significant contracts in the 2023 free agency period.
Throughout his time with the Broncos, Bolles has consistently expressed his desire to remain with the team, hoping to be a “Bronco for life.” He indicated that his family also wanted to continue their lives in Denver during his professional career.
