Green Bay Packers opening odds: Houston Texans enter Lambeau as underdogs
This ain’t Texas. Ain’t no homefield. So lay your bets down, down, down, down.
The Houston Texans will come to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers this Sunday, October 20th. This will mark only the third time the Texans have played in Green Bay.
The last time the Texans celebrated a win in Lambeau, a player named Kevin Walter led the game in receiving, and the last notable quarterback in Houston had just retired. This time, according to FanDuel, the Packers open as 2.5 point favorites. For those who delve deeper than the headline, it’s essential to recognize that home field advantage is typically valued at 3 points. This indicates that, on neutral ground, these teams are relatively even.
Despite playing at home, the expected advantage for the Packers might not hold true for the Texans, as NRG Stadium in Houston certainly has its own unique atmosphere.
Reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud continues to showcase his skills in his ongoing campaign, averaging 278.2 passing yards per game, which places Houston second in the league in that regard. However, while they gain significant yardage, the Texans only average 23.8 points per game, positioning them at 14th overall. Meanwhile, the defense allows 22.5 points, creating a balance in their performance.
Following an impressive outing against Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals, the Packers have shown a solid record of 4-2 against the spread. They covered the line of -5.5 in their last game and effectively contained Murray’s offense, which helped to keep the overall score below the pre-game over/under of 49.5 points.
This week, the line is set at 47.5, and predicting the scoring trend can be challenging. Texans running back Joe Mixon has recorded 52 carries in three games with an impressive average of 5.5 yards per touch, although off-field concerns surround him. Additionally, Nico Collins, a significant target for the Texans, is currently on Injured Reserve, removing a key component from their offense.
On the other hand, the Packers’ offense appears largely healthy, aside from a week-to-week injury designation for Dontavion Wicks, which looks promising for their prospects heading into the game.
