US Secretary of State Rubio to Travel to Panama, Countries in Region Starting Late Next Week
Washington, Jan 23 – US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to embark on a trip to Panama and several other nations in the region starting late next week, according to his spokesperson.
State Department Spokeswoman Tammy Bruce announced, “Secretary Rubio will travel to Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic beginning late next week.”
Rubio, who recently took office at the age of 53, was confirmed as Secretary of State on Tuesday. He has already participated in significant diplomatic engagements, including his first multilateral meeting with his counterparts from the Quad countries: Australia, India, and Japan. Additionally, he held a bilateral meeting with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
On Wednesday, Rubio engaged in telephone conversations with counterparts from more than seven countries, which included South Korea, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. Notably, he also spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, marking an active start to his tenure in office.
As Secretary of State, Rubio’s diplomatic trips are crucial in strengthening relationships and addressing regional issues, particularly in Central America and the Caribbean.
